Any company wishing to ensure that it conforms to its stated energy policy and wishing to demonstrate this to others, may adopt an energy management system in compliance with ISO 50001. This system can be completely integrated with quality, environment and safety management systems.
The objective of a energy management system is to enable a compamy to achieve, with a systematic approach, continual improvement of energy performance, including energy efficiency, the reduction of green-house gases emissions and other related environmental aspects and their energy costs including energy use and consumption. The standard includes also measurement, documentation and reporting, design and procurement practices for equipment, systems, processes and personnel that contribute to energy performance and applies to all all variables affecting energy performance that can be monitored and influenced by the company. Certification allows a company to:
- assess and keep under cotrol its own energy impact producing a reduction of costs;
- for energy consuming companies enhance the capability to produce an energy review;
- obtain European “white certificates”.
